Getting around Samui

Scooter and motorbike

Getting around Samui by scooter
We’re not fans. Though popular with both locals and tourists, scooters are a main contributor to Samui’s road accident rate.

Songthaew ("song-tao")

Getting around Samui by songthaew
A public pick-up truck on a vaguely set route. Hop on & off these trucks as they circle the island ring road. Agree on the price first.
(50-100THB depending on the distance)

Taxi
Set a rate in advance as, despite appearances, meters are not used.
(200-400 THB)

Hire car
Renting a Samui hire car is a brilliant way to see the island.

Walking
Our Choeng Mon villa is just 10 minutes' walk from Choeng Mon beach and town.
