Thai crafts
Visit Bophut high street to find wooden carvings, silk wall hangings, and the ubiquitous Thai triangular cushion. Any of these provide the perfect Samui take-away.

Art
On sale throughout Samui are copies of famous paintings. For a truly special keepsake - ask the artists if they do commissioned or custom work. Many do.

Bits and bobs

Prickly heat powder
If your skin gets uncomfortable in Thailand's hot climate, pick up prickly heat powder. This magic fix is found at any island chemist. It’s just the trick. (See our Thailand packing checklist for toiletries to bring).

DVDs and knock-off goods
Hit the high street in Chaweng or Fishermen's Village for all sorts of Thai goodies, cheap knock-offs and DVDs. (Official word is that the government is clamping down on this trade... time will tell).

Designer sunglasses
Opticians such as Top Charoen are on every corner of the island. The best bit? You can bargain for your beloved’s new pair of Ray Bann’s

Top Charoen Optical
Get an eye exam and new glasses at prices much more reasonable than in the west. Glasses ready the next day.
Various locations

Custom clothing
Tailor shops are found all over the island. We tried it once and won't return: here's why we avoid the Koh Samui tailor.
