Thai curry and a cold

Becoming one with statistic, we caught nasty colds on a recent flight. Though sniffling and coughing when it’s 30 degrees seems odd, the afflicted can combat their germs with a Thai weapon sure to deliver: a spicy curry. The heat of a Thai curry travels directly to your sinuses and will quickly clear your head (if it doesn’t blow it right off). In fact, it’s the only ‘medicine’ we’ve taken.
During this pathetic malaise we’ve been braver than usual, biting into chillis we’d normally avoid and keeping quiet when we’d otherwise plead “paet nit noy” (a little spicy).
Tom Kha Gai is another ingenious cold-fighting food: much like the Western world’s “chicken soup” tonic but with a feistier, spicier kick. For the uninitiated, it’s coconut and chicken soup packed with chillies, lemongrass and various vegetables. Seriously nutritious and certifiably delicious.
We’re rounding out our cold-killer kit with lots of water and plenty of Tiger balm for aching muscles. With sun beds and hammocks, staying bed-ridden isn’t so rough after all.
Now what? Keep reading...
With love,
